“We cannot describe ourselves without also describing what we need to escape from, and what, we believe, we need to escape to.” (Philipps, 2002:16)

Charlotte's gaze aims to bring healing by shedding light on the millennial traces of patriarchal oppression through the notion of radical compassion.

Charlotte is a photographer, visual anthropologist and sexologist who finds her purpose in vulnerable storytelling, following the belief that the most refined tool of perception is an open, trusting heart.

Her photographic work deals with issues of identity, belonging and the decolonisation of the human mind.

Embedding the concept of Nudocumentary, she celebrates the naked body as a means of empowerment approaching her subjects through a vulnerable lens – often times including herself.

In her work, she strives to create conscious collaborations that unfold as mutual transformation processes. To enhance the notion of something organic and slow-paced, Charlotte shoots on analogue medium format, mostly in long-term documentary projects.

Embodying the ancient Maya saying "In L'akech Hala Ken" — "I am You, You are another Me", Charlotte views the world as a mirror that invites us to question our own projections through the eyes of the other. Through her creative process, she devotes herself to capturing truths rooted in self empowerment rather than based on external approval.
